1) Answer the Prompt Directly:
Describe how the intended CNS major would impact achievement of your educational and career goals.
I want to major in Nutrition because it not only reiterates the science subjects such as biology, chemistry, and biochemistry but it also provides a different perspective on approaching oral hygiene problems.
2) Brain Dump Potential Content:
Integrate nutrition and dentistry
Educating future patients on how their dietary choices affect oral hygiene
Having knowledge on how specific content can help with dentistry (different types of enzymes/functions of the body that relate to dentistry)
Briefly mention my anecdote
Didn’t do too well academically due to the drawback of the illness
Mention that I am about halfway done with the degree (via IDA)
Mention courses that are helpful(career)/interesting (education) that I’ll be taking
Mention how the major includes pre-reqs for dental school
3) Organize:
Introduction: Include thesis (argument of consideration) (start with anecdote) (reason for being undeclared, transition to decision of nutrition) BE ORGANIC
Body 1: Educational Goals (anecdote/student first (short term) (Personal) (Mention prof. in NTR program, specific aspects of the program) (Possibly split into two paragraphs) (Mention degree audit) (mention grades affected by illness) (Maybe transition with illness/grades)
Body 2: Career Goals (how will NTR help later on) (Possibly start with short term-long term (Pre-Dental), NTR + Dental (science courses/content of the program)
Conclusion: How they’ll further/help with success in dentistry (mention different approach/perspective), Representing UT, What will I do for the program (what can I bring to the program), (not a requirement to reference intro.), Why should I be considered?
Take your time to apply and gain as many stories and experience as you can! (I submitted my application the last day the portal was open - DO NOT DO THIS; MAYBE DO IT 2-3 DAYS BEFORE it closes
This proves the cycle is NOT ROLLING, it is just whoever has the better overall application!
Do your research on your major; talk to those in the major already, study degree plans/tracks/courses, find what interests you the most within the major
BE REALISTIC
Make sure your GPA is as high as it can be (especially science GPA)
My GPA was a bit low (3.61) but Nutrition is NOT the hardest CNS major to get into
Have peers or mentors review/revise your essay
I had 4-5 friends review my essay but ended up only listening to one person and changed a third of my essay
If you don’t agree with revisions, then DO NOT LISTEN to them
